Chaos is the beauty of Kathmandu. The narrow, rickety roads filled with dirt, people, cows, and the medieval temples gives an overall vibe of exhaustion as well as an amusement when you linger around this cramped city of Nepal. One gets overwhelmed with an explosion of senses (sight, smell and sound) while at Kathmandu. Nevertheless, the severe earthquake has affected the overall shape of the capital, destroying some of the major UNESCO world heritage sites. But the city has enough to keep you busy for a week. My stay in Kathmandu was limited to just two days, and I have managed to visit plenty of places within this time. This blog post will feature the best Things To Do In Kathmandu along with the things I wanted to do In Kathmandu.
Walk Around Boudhnath Stupa
It is a beautiful feeling… really! To walk around the Stupa, to hear the prayer chants, touch the prayer wheels and follow the spiritual route. Known as the largest Stupa in the world, the Boudhanath Stupa is 36-meters in height, with plenty of shops around that sells pretty Nepali accessories. Lay your hands on the crafts, have some great bargains and take some unique pieces back home.
Explore The Chaotic Beauty Of Pashupati Nath Temple
A bustling Hindu temple loaded with pilgrims, rituals, cremations, agoras, saints and whatnot. Located on both banks of Bagmati River on the eastern outskirts of Kathmandu, this temple will take you to a mystic spiritual world unknown to humankind.
Stroll around the rustic architecture of Durbar Square/ Lalitpur
Lalitpur, otherwise known as Patan, is beauty itself adorned with rich history and culture. These rich temples and architectures from the ancient days are a living testimony of the age-old Buddhist culture that prevailed in this region. Walkthrough the crowded alleys and explore the beauty of this architecture. Don’t forget to drop into a museum that possesses exhibits detailing the history of Nepal.
Discover The Beauty Of Swayambhunath Temple
Don’t get disappointed by the long stairs up to the temple; the naughty monkeys will accompany you. The climb is worth since the view from the top is mesmerising! Swayambhunath Temple is another piece of history filled with om chants, prayer wheels and monks.
Shop At Thamel
Shopping at Thamel is crazy as well as adventurous. From trekking gears to boho accessories, you will get everrrrrryyyyyything here! I loved the rhythm of this commercial neighbourhood of Nepal.
Cafe And Pubs
I swear there are charming cafes and happening pubs in Nepal that will sweep you with diligent hospitality and delicious food. I have been to a couple of places which was lit with a splendid ambience and lively crowd.
Try Gambling
